La Depresión Infantil es un tema que ha sido poco estudiado ya que su sintomatología se aleja de la manifestada en los adultos. Por otro lado, hay quienes se cuestionan un diagnóstico prematuro de este trastorno del comportamiento. No obstante, en la actualidad son cada vez más los niños que presentan una serie de síntomas recurrentes e igualmente, padres que recurren a las valoraciones psiquiátricas y psicológicas debido a tales manifestaciones. El objetivo de este trabajo es caracterizar la Depresión Infantil y sus manifestaciones sintomáticas a partir de una revisión teórica del concepto desde los autores más representativos de la Escuela Psicoanalítica y de Investigaciones que se aproximen a la comprensión de dicha problemática. En la actualidad, hay pocos estudios sobre esta problemática. No obstante, los síntomas asociados a la Depresión Infantil son cada vez más recurrentes por lo que este trabajo cobra importancia para la Psicología en tanto las aproximaciones diagnósticas a partir del CIE-10 y el DSM-IV presentan criterios no especificados dentro de sus nosologías. Es imprescindible hacer la distinción del criterio diagnóstico adulto principalmente porque la Psicología aún no tiene investigaciones sistematizadas acerca de la depresión infantil, los casos varían dependiendo de las particulares sintomatologías del infante y la edad del niño. SUMMARY Introduction: Childhood depression is a topic that has received little attention because its symptoms are manifested in a different way from the one expressed in adults. On the other hand, there are some that question an early diagnosis of this behavior disorder. However, today more and more children have been presenting a series of recurrent symptoms of this disorder and as a result from that, the number of parents seeking psychiatric and psychological assessment in this matter has increased significantly. Objective: To characterize childhood depression and it´s symptomatic manifestations. A theoretical review of the concept of Child Depression will be made, based on the research from the most representative authors of the English and French School of Psychoanalysis that best describe, from a comprehensive point of view this disorder. Conclusions: Currently, there are few studies on this problem. However, the symptoms associated with childhood depression have increased during the past years giving relevance to the contribution of this work particularly in the area of psychology since diagnosing criteria provided from ICD-10 and DSM-IV has not yet specified their nosologic scheme. Childhood depression should be differentiated from that of adults, since its diagnosing criteria and symptoms diverge. Finally we conclude that psychology hasn't had systematized research on childhood depression yet, cases vary depending on the child's age and particular symptoms.
